250 Gallon Feldmeier Tanks Built for Sanitary Processing

Feldmeier Equipment has been building stainless steel tanks in Syracuse, New York since 1952. The company is still owned and run by the third generation of the Feldmeier family, and it fabricates every vessel in the United States. As a result, you will find Feldmeier tanks in dairy plants, breweries, beverage operations, and personal care facilities across the country.

These two tanks were manufactured in 2009 and carry a 250 gallon working capacity. They use a dome top over a dished bottom, which is still the standard sanitary configuration for good reason. The dome sheds condensate back down the sidewall instead of dripping it into the batch. The dished bottom then drains completely to a center outlet, with no flat area to trap product.

Heating, Cooling, and Direct Steam Injection

The sidewalls are jacketed and insulated. That combination lets you heat or cool a batch through the jacket and then hold your setpoint without fighting the room. Insulation also keeps the outside of the vessel cool to the touch and cuts the energy you burn maintaining temperature.

What separates these tanks from a plain jacketed vessel is the bottom direct steam injection. DSI puts steam straight into the product, where it condenses and surrenders its heat immediately. A heat-up that would take a jacket the better part of half an hour instead happens in a fraction of that. DSI runs on culinary steam, and the condensate becomes part of the batch, so it is a natural fit for water-based formulations.

A bottom entry temperature probe reads the product itself rather than the headspace above it. That gives you a number you can trust for hold times and batch records.

Agitation, CIP, and Sanitary Fittings

Agitation is vertical, driven by a Baldor motor wired for 230/460 volt three phase service. Baldor is a mainstream American motor brand, so any motor shop can service one.

The tanks are also set up for clean in place. Two spray balls cover the interior, and a top vent handles the pressure swings that come with hot caustic. Product contact surfaces are 304 stainless, still the workhorse grade for dairy, food, and beverage service.

The fittings are straightforward. Three 2.5″ top inlets let you add ingredients while the agitator runs. The 4″ center outlet sits 54″ off the ground, which is enough clearance to gravity feed a pump, a portable tank, or a filler underneath. A Waukesha Cherry-Burrell sanitary air valve controls the discharge, so the tanks are ready to tie into automated controls.

Why Buy a Used Stainless Steel Mixing Tank

Stainless does not wear out the way mechanical equipment does. A vessel that has been cleaned and passivated properly is essentially what it was on day one. That is why used mixing tanks hold their value so well, and it is why buying one is usually an easy decision.

New sanitary vessels are custom fabricated to order, so lead times run into months before anything ships. A used stainless steel mixing tank already exists, which puts you into production far sooner and at a fraction of the cost. These two tanks stand 151″ tall on a 48″ by 48″ footprint, mounted on legs with stainless levelers.

CWR Resources supplies used mixing tanks, processing vessels, and complete lines to buyers throughout the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.
