A Used Bartelt HFFS Pouch Machine from the IM Series
Bartelt packaging horizontal form fill seal machines have been running in North American pouch plants for decades, and IM series Bartelt packagers are the platform the name rests on. A Bartelt form fill seal machine of this generation is mechanically driven rather than servo driven. One main drive turns cams that run every station in time with each other. Because of that, there is less to configure and less to go wrong, and a millwright can follow the whole motion by standing there and watching it.
What IM7-14 Actually Means
The model number is not arbitrary. Reading it tells you most of what you need to know.
IM7 is the seven inch index pitch. Pitch is how far the film advances on each cycle, so it sets the widest pouch the machine can produce. Bartelt built the IM in six, seven, and nine inch pitches, which puts this one squarely in the middle of the range.
The 14 is the number of workstations along the machine. Those stations cover pouch forming, opening, filling, tamping, sealing, and vacuum pick-off, plus secondary work like notching, code dating, and debossing. So more stations mean more operations completed in a single pass.
On this machine the pouch range runs from 2″ to 5.75″ wide and 2″ to 9.5″ tall, at speeds up to 100 pouches per minute. An adjustable forming plow covers that width range without a plow swap.
Dual Auger Filling and Inline Metal Detection
This is the specification that sets the machine apart from a single filler unit. It carries dual auger fillers, so two products can go into the same pouch on the same cycle. If you are packing a powder plus an inclusion, or two components dosed separately and combined in the pouch, that capability is expensive to add later. Here it is already fitted.
Augers meter by volume through a rotating screw, so they suit powders and fine granular product. Think drink mixes, seasonings, supplements, and baking blends.
Each filler runs through a CEIA Model THS/G flow through metal detector. Because that inspection happens on the way into the pouch rather than after sealing, a reject costs you product alone. You are not scrapping a finished package with film, fill weight, and labor already in it.
Controls, Vacuum, and Footprint
An Allen-Bradley MicroLogix 1200 runs the machine. MicroLogix is among the most widely deployed control platforms in North American plants, so its programming environment is familiar to nearly every controls tech in the country.
A Busch vacuum pump feeds the vacuum stations, and on an IM packager vacuum does real work. It opens the formed pouch so the fillers can drop product in, then picks the finished pouch off at discharge. Busch is a mainstream industrial vacuum brand, so service parts stay easy to come by. The machine measures 21′ long by 6′ wide by 106″ tall.

IM series pouchers have a reputation for staying in service. They are heavy, mechanically simple, and common enough in the field that change parts and tooling still circulate freely. Bartelt continues to build the platform as well, so support has not gone away.

You are not gambling on a discontinued design, and you are not waiting out the months a new HFFS build takes.
